NAPERVILLE, ILL. – Manchester University’s throwers took advantage of some beautiful spring weather at North Central College of Illinois’ Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium Thursday, May 10.
Pushing to improve upon rankings on the 2018 NCAA Division III performance list, senior Jacey Cauhorn earned a top 10 mark in the discus, and sophomore Austin Jones (Lapel, Ind.) set a new personal career best in the hammer. While Cauhorn’s 133 foot, seven-inch mark didn’t allow her to rise on the national list, it did enable her to finish seventh in a 19-thrower field. Jones, whose attempts in the cage have jumped into the 140-foot-plus range of late, uncorked a 154-foot, three-inch launch to end 16th, just one spot ahead of senior teammate Kara Breuckman (Crown Point, Ind.) who turned in a 148-foot, 10-inch best toss.
On the track, junior Samina Qureshi aimed the 5000 meters. Amongst a throng of 88 competitors, the Columbia City, Ind., native managed to narrowly miss a new personal best, clocking a 20:23.63 to end up 67th.
MU returns to action at the Dr. Keeler meet Friday, May 11. Junior men’s jumps specialist Justin Meredith (Shelbyville, Ind.) competes in the long and triple events; senior men’s sprinter Harrison Hollis (Lebanon, Ind.) is among the 100 and 200-meter dash fields; and sophomore women’s distance standout Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.) tries to take more time off her 1500 meter season best. Competition is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
