Manchester tennis closed out their regular season with a great 5-0 team win over Southwood Monday to end their conference championship undefeated in TRC play. Senior Lydia Little moved to 11-3 on the year with a 6-1,6-2 win. Freshman Hallie Briner won 6-1,6-0 to also bring her season total to 11-3. “Both Lydia and Halle are really controlling their matches with great strategy and shot placement. They have consistency and power at just the right times to succeed.” The two doubles team of senior Lauren Metzger and sophomore Rebekah Pyle clinched the team win with a dominating 6-0,6-2 victory. “I really like the was these two ladies compliment each other with styles of play. They are on a roll going into sectionals.” Junior Kelsey Eichenauer turned a close set one into her favor winning a tiebreaker 8-6. The seesaw first set saw Eichenauer down 4-5 but win two to take a 6-5 lead. After almost closing out 7-5, Gentry forced a 6-6 tie and ensuing well played tiebreaker. Eichenauer would find her attacking strokes and strong serve to cruise through set two winning 6-1. “Kelsey really elevated her play as the match progressed
against a fine athletic opponent. She’s ready for a sectional run.” Finally, The one doubles team of senior Kendra Auler and junior substitute Anna Osborne persevered in a three set victory. After winning a close opening set in a 9-7 tiebreaker, the duo
struggled dropping set two 3-6. With renewed energy, Auler served well and Osborne returned well to win the final set 6-2. Manchester improves to 10-4 overall and 8-0 in conference play. In JV action Manchester won 7 of the 9 contests including all 3 singles positions by Alexa Donathan, Morgan Stroud, and Emily Ogden. Doubles victories came from the pairs of Erika Kendall/Hallie Wampler, Sarah Metzger/Maggie Myers, Morgyn Jimenez/Morgan Stroud, and Lillian Myers/Guri Hoidahl. The Lady Squire JV team ends with an excellent 12-2 (8-0TRC) season only losing to state ranked FW Carroll and Homestead. Manchester varsity plays host Peru on Wednesday at 5pm in sectional action with the winner to face Wabash on Thursday.
