The Southwood baseball team traveled to Ft Wayne Tuesday, building an early lead before falling to Luers 8-7 in eight innings.
The Knights would plate 4 runs in the second. Alex Farr would lead off with a single and was followed by a Clayton Wells single. A sac bunt by Cam Ball moved both runners a base before a Gabe Lloyd walk loaded the bases. Tristin Hayslett would follow with a single to chase home Farr for a 1-0 lead. With two outs Mason Yentes would reach on an error with Wells scoring to make it 2-0. Carson Rich would then single to score Kelley and Hayslett to lead 4-0.
Southwood would tack on a run in the top of the third. With one out Wells would single before scoring on a Lloyd two out single for a 5-0 lead. Luers would answer with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning, then tie the score in the fourth.
The Knights would grab the lead again in the fifth when Lloyd led off with a double and advance to third on an error. Lloyd would then score on a Kelley fly ball to take a 6-5 lead. Again Luers would answer with a run to make it 6-6.
The game would go to the eighth still tied 6-6 when Lloyd hit a one out single and scored on a Hayslett triple. Two fly outs would end the threat. Luers would come back to score 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to defeat the Knights 8-7.
