Lady Squires Fall In Tennis Regional To Warsaw

The Manchester Lady Squire tennis team played Warsaw at the Culver Academies in the regionals of the state tournament. Facing a solid singles lineup was a tall order for the Manchester singles players. Kelsey, Halle, and Lydia all showed great competitive spirit and forced many deuce games showing they belonged at this level. The end result didn’t show the points won as Kelsey and Lydia each collected 3 games and Halle just one. The one doubles team of Kendra Auler and Eva Bazzoni were down 1-4 before winning two games to go 3-4 and then 4-5. Manchester’s efforts stalled there winning just one more game the rest of the match. The closest match came at two doubles as Lauren Metzger and Rebekah Pyle won the opening set 6-3 and led 4-3 before losing momentum. A couple unfortunate points led to a 4-6 second set loss, and then after a 3-2 third set lead, Warsaw took the last four games to win 3-6. “I am very proud of this team. Not only the 7 girls that played tonight, but also senior Erika Kendall and the many juniors and other JV players who supported, encouraged, and played well all season to improve everyone. We’ll really miss our 4 seniors, but thank them for how they were quality young ladies as well as winners taking home yet another conference and third straight sectional titles. This was a fun, positive, and multi talented group of young ladies. It was a pleasure to coach them this year. And our wonderful supportive parents, grandparents, friends, and administrative staff really made us all feel surrounded by community. For that, we all say thank you and look forward to another successful season in 18-19.” –Coach Joel Eichenauer
