Topping off a historical 2018 softball season, Manchester University senior second baseman Laurren Ladwig (Crown Point, Ind.) became the program’s first National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-American with the announcement of the top three squads Wednesday, May 23.
Ladwig, already an all-Central Region first teamer and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s Most Valuable Offensive Player, was on the first team when it was introduced at the 2018 pre-NCAA Division III College World Series banquet in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was one of 36 first time All-Americans on the list.
The senior concluded the 2018 campaign as the national leader in total (19) and home runs per game (.5) while being listed among the top 10 in slugging percentage (1.026 – No. 3). Ladwig’s 19 home runs for the Black and Gold not only assisted MU in advancing to the HCAC postseason tournament for the first time since 2015 but also set a new school and conference single-season mark for round trippers. Her 44 career home runs are also at the top of Manchester University’s records and rank among one of the best efforts in league history.
