The Northfield and Southwood baseball teams met in the semi finals of the Caston sectional Saturday with the Norse taking the county battle 7-1.
Northfield would plate 2 runs in the first. Clayton Tomlinson led off with a walk and was followed by a Chance Hartman single. A sac bunt by Blake Harner moved the runners one base before a Matt Coe fly ball scored Tomlinson for a 1-0 lead. Nate Drancik would follow drawing a walk before Jared Vigar reached on an error with Hartman scoring.
The Knights threatened in the second when Alex Farr led off with a double and was followed by a Gabe Lloyd walk. Clayton Wells was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs before Drancik recorded an infield fly and two strike outs to get out of the inning.
Northfield would tack on a run in the fourth. With one out Vigar would triple and score on an error to lead 3-0.
In the fifth Tomlinson would lead off with a single and was moved to second on a sac bunt. With two outs and Tomlinson standing on third Coe would single to make it 4-0. Coe would steal second before a Drancik single made it 5-0.
Northfield would plate two more runs in the sixth. Braden Ripplinger led off with a walk before a Trevor Burnworth single. Cole Rosen would follow reaching on an error to load the bases before a Tomlinson ground ball made it 6-0. With two outs Harner would single home Burnworth for the 7-0 lead.
Southwood would score their lone run in the bottom of the seventh. With one out Lloyd would single. Lloyd would score on a Wells single.
