The Northfield Norsemen rode dominate pitching through the sectional and regional to grab both titles and were one game away from the state championship game as they took on Daleville Saturday in the Kokomo semi state.
Blake Harner and Nate Drancik had been lights out the previous two tourneys, but struggled Saturday as the Norse fell 8-2. Not only did the Norse pitching struggle, the defense committed four errors in the losing cause.
The Norse would actually get on the board first when Harner hit a two out single and scored on a Matt Coe triple in the top of the first. Daleville would come back in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of a double, a walk and two hit batters to grab a 2-1 lead.
In the second the Norse would even the score when Jared Vigar led off with a triple and scored on a Braden Ripplinger sac fly. The Norse would continue to get out of jams in the third and fourth, with the first hitter of the third reaching on a dropped third strike before Harner set down the next three. In the fourth Daleville had runners on the corners with no outs before a grounder was hit to shortstop Chance Hartman, who fired the ball home to cut down the runner before getting out of the inning.
Daleville was leading 3-2 heading to the bottom of the fifth when all the near falls became reality. The Broncos would score five times to grab an 8-2 lead that they would hold onto the remainder of the game.
