NOTRE DAME, IND. – The senior and freshman middle hitter combination of Hannah Tevis (Royal Center, Ind.) and Samantha Campbell (Brownsburg, Ind.) topped the statistics sheet for Manchester University Tuesday, September 4.
Despite a three-set loss to St. Mary’s College of Indiana at the Angela Athletic and Wellness Complex, the pair combined for 16 of the team’s 32 total kills, tallying eight each. They also put up a stiff challenge for the Belles’ offense with two block assists apiece. Looking further into the Black and Gold’s numbers, senior middle hitter Emma Voelker (North Bend, Ohio) and freshman outside hitter Chelsea Waltmire (Muncie, Ind.) finished with four kills apiece; senior outside hitter Kaitlin Mindiola (Coatsville, Ind.) served up three aces; junior defensive specialist Anna Marie Lawrie (Indianapolis, Ind.) dug up 14 St. Mary’s attack attempts; and freshman setter Ella Machall (Fort Wayne, Ind.) posted 15 assists.
Manchester University (0-5) battled throughout. Interim head coach Ivan Matos’ group registered strong .226 and .176 attack percentages in the opening two frames. They were also on the verge of set victories at two spots, falling 25-20 in the first and 25-23 in the third.
The Spartans break from competition until Wednesday, Sept. 12. Olivet College of Michigan visits Stauffer-Wolfe Arena for a 6 p.m. first serve.
