The Southwood junior high football teams took the short trip to Wabash Tuesday.
The Knights 7th grade defeated the Apaches 34-16.
The 7th grade was lead by Micah Smith and Blayne Hamilton, who combined for 5 touch downs and 190 yards on 24 carries. The Knights started strong with two scores in the 1st quarter, but Wabash answered in the second quarter taking a 16-14 lead at half.
The Knights made strong efforts on both offense and defense to take control of the game in the second half, scoring the last 18 points of the game. Randall Boone, Ayden Stouffer, Blayne Hamilton, Luke Pershing, and Micah Smith lead a defense that rallied recording 12 tackles for loss, 5 hurried passes, an interception, and a fumble recovery.
Knights 8th grade is now 2-0 after defeating Wabash 40-0
Southwood scored on a 75 yard kick-off return by Cole Winer to start the game. Still in the 1st quarter Morgan Lloyd ran for a 55 yard Touch Down. In the 2nd quarter Cole Winer took off for a 43 yard weaving run for another Touch Down. In the 3rd quarter after a Blocked Punt by Kaden Rody, Morgan Lloyd ran outside for a score. In the 4th quarter Elijah Staggs Intercepted pass and returned it for the final score of the night.
Other defensive stand outs were: Isaiah Sutton, Braxton Worthington, Morgan Lloyd, Nevan Sharp, and Jason Opisek.
For Wabash Wade Riggle had three catches. Antonio Grant had two catches. John Prater and John Moore also added receptions.
