The Manchester Squires trailed for three quarters Friday night at Peru before punching in a go ahead touchdown in the fourth and hanging on for a 34-31 win over the Tigers.
Darien Cleaver would put Peru up 7-0 when he scored from 7yds out before a Delton Moore 20yd TD run made it 7-6. The Tigers would score two more times in the first quarter on a 22yd run from Zachary Johnson and a Torion Ja Forrest 30yd interception for a touchdown to lead 18-6 after one.
Devon Marcum would close the deficit for the Squires early in the second with a 16yd scoring TD to make it 18-13 before Michael Chandler answered for Peru with a 5yd touchdown to make it 25-13. Marcum would end the scoring in the second when he hooked up with Trey Clark for a 72yd scoring strike as Peru led 25-19 at the half.
Manchester would grab their first lead of the game in the third when Moore found the end zone from 13yds out to give the Squires a 26-25 lead. Peru would come right back, getting a 51yd scoring run from Torion’Ja Forrest to put Peru back on top 31-26.
The lone score of the fourth quarter came on a Moore 7yd run to give Manchester a 34-31 lead that they would hang on to til the last play of the game. Peru would put together one more drive as time was running out, taking the ball to the one with just enough time for one more play that ended up on a bad snap with the Squires stopping the threat to defeat the Tigers 34-31.
