By virtue of the Blackford Invitational being cancelled the Wabash Apaches cross country teams were able to switch into the Wildcat Invitational hosted by IWU Saturday. Because the Apaches entered at the last minute they were not officially scored but were allowed to race. Course conditions were less than ideal: standing water and mud covered the entire course. Dereck Vogel, Zack Reed, and Koby Prater led the Apaches with a 1-2-3 finish followed closely by Blakely Cole who finished 5th. Jarrett Wilson rounded out the would be team scoring with a 9th place finish. If allowed to score the Apaches would have won the Gray Division race with a score of 20.
After the unfortunate event of the Blackford Invite being cancelled, the Lady Apaches were able to join at the last minute to attend the Wildcat Invitational. Due to the late entry, the Lady Apaches were unable to score but were able to add a true cross country meet under their belt. With pouring rain and a mud ridden course, junior Angel Wherly earned the unofficial placing of 32nd with a time of 26:46. Camille Kugler, a junior, unofficially placed 65th with a time of 30:05.
The juniors were able to finish their race with 85 other athletes all of which were in the Grey Division of the competion. Next week, the Lady Apache Cross Country team will be gearing up and preparing to defend their home course at the Apache Invitational for the following week on September 18th.
