GREENCASTLE, IND. – For a second straight day, Manchester University’s offense was blanked by a stout home defensive effort Sunday, Sept. 16.
North Coast Athletic Conference member and in-state NCAA Division III rival DePauw University thwarted the Spartans’ attempt at back-to-back victories in the all-time series, winning 2-0 at its home Reavis Stadium. Junior goalkeeper Justin Winterboer (Indianapolis, Ind.), in his second start of the season, repelled a pair of Tigers’ scoring chances, but the home side managed to send two into the back of the visiting net in the 43rd and 62nd minutes for the difference.
Just as had occurred the night before in a 1-0 loss at Kalamazoo College, the Black and Gold offense was clean sheeted. Five different players from head coach Corey Brueggeman’s crew managed shot attempts with senior midfielder Josh McCoy (LaPorte, Ind.) and sophomore midfielder Nick Surber (Hebron, Ind.) each firing strikes on frame but to no avail.
MU, dipping to 2-4, returns to Good Field Wednesday, Sept. 19. Neighboring National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ opponent Huntington University pays a visit for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
