Fall slate ends on high note

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Fueled by a sweep in doubles action, Manchester University squeaked past fellow Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference member Franklin College 5-4 in Sunday, Sept. 23.

The two league rivals literally went down to the final point in a three-and-a-half hour battle at the university’s outdoor courts. Senior Connor Eichenauer (North Manchester, Ind.) and sophomore Isaac Miller (Goshen, Ind.) held off FC’s Blake Amonett and Alex Pollard 9-7, while the freshman pairing of Bailey Buhrt (Warsaw, Ind.) and Samuel Hollingsworth (New Castle, Ind.) and the junior duo of Dalton Bailey (Bourbon, Ind.) and Gavin Eads (Bourbon, Ind.) claimed similar 8-5 wins to put the Spartans up 3-0.

Franklin answered in singles’ competition, winning four matches. Miller, slipping past Jake Zachary 7-6 and 6-4 at number two, and Buhrt, sweeping past Pollard 6-3, 6-2, turned the tide for the home team for the victory. MU’s fall season concluded at 1-2.
