Spartans turn in busy HCAC weekend

Doubles victories highlighted a three-dual weekend Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 19-23.

Junior Morgan Brazzo (Mentone, Ind.) and freshman Kaitlyn Burger (Syracuse, Ind.) captured a win at the number two slot against Earlham College Saturday and sophomore Karly Eichenauer (North Manchester, Ind.) and freshman Chelsea Brettnacher (West Lafayette, Ind.) joined freshmen Vanessa Mahmoud (South Bend, Ind.) and Madeline Russow(Logansport, Ind.) to win two of three from Defiance College Thursday.

Interim head coach Dr. Wendy Hoffman’s squad also gained a pair of singles’ decisions during the stretch. Mahmoud won a three-set cliffhanger against the Yellow Jackets, putting the Black and Gold on the verge of a dual win before DC rallied back with decisions in the other five match-ups, and Russow was a winner against Franklin College Sunday.

Manchester University (0-5, 0-4 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) continues its home season Thursday, Sept. 27. Grace College comes to the campus’ outdoor courts for a 4 p.m. start.
