Second half shutout highlights home matinee

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – A quick-starting Transylvania University squad posted six scores in a span of fewer than 40 minutes in route to a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Saturday, Oct. 6.

Head coach Christine Johnson’s Spartans (0-13 overall, 0-3 HCAC) managed to stifle the visiting Pioneers over the final 45-plus minutes to keep the Good Field scoreboard at 6-0 at match’s end. Three home side individuals provided positives. Senior goalkeeper Cami Holford (Valparaiso, Ind.) registered seven saves over the afternoon, while the Black and Gold offense did get seven attempts aimed at the visiting net. Senior midfielder/forward Maranda Birmingham (Kouts, Ind.) and freshman midfielder Jessica Hudnall (Noblesville, Ind.) combined for five of them.

MU continues the 2018 conference slate Wednesday, Oct. 10. Franklin College visits North Manchester for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
