West coast trip out to 1-2 start

Freshman middle/outside hitter Samantha Campbell (Brownsburg, Ind.) and senior right side hitter Haley Duncan (Albion, Ind.) were an effective one-two punch for Manchester University Sunday, Oct. 7.

Campbell blistered ten kills, good for her fifth double-digit positive attack total, and Duncan hammered 11 kills to mark her 10th such effort. Due to those numbers and others including junior defensive specialist/libero Anna Marie Lawrie (Indianapolis, Ind.) moving her consecutive match string of double-digit digs to 13 over the three-match weekend Friday, Oct. 5, through Sunday, Oct. 7, with 15, interim head coach Ivan Matos’ side rolled past Mills College 25-14, 25-19, 25-15 Sunday. The Spartans, taking their record to 5-12, were topped by Occidental College 25-19, 25-9, 25-18 Friday and by the University of Redlands 22-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-10 Sunday.

Against Redlands, senior middle hitter Hannah Tevis (Royal Center, Ind.) registered a double-double of 10 kills and 15 digs, while Duncan finished with 13 digs. The same pair topped the offense versus Occidental with seven kills each.

MU concludes its California trip Monday, Oct. 8, taking on Vanguard University.
