The Wabash High School cross country team won the Marion Regional Saturday morning.
This was the first boys cross country regional championship in school history. The Apaches were led by Dereck Vogel who finished 2nd. Zack Reed was 5th, Koby Prater 8th, Aaron Nickerson 10th, Blakley Cole 15th, Caleb Callahan 43rd and Jarrett Wilson 45th.
Whitney Working, a senior, placed 25th with a career best time of 20:59. As a Junior, Angel Wehrly ran the best time of her career at 23:14 and came home with a satisfying place of 58th. As an individual, Whitney advanced to Semi-State for the second time in her career.
The Apaches will compete next Saturday in Fort Wayne for a chance to advance to the state finals.
The Northfield girls finished eighth. Allyssa McKillip finished 8th overall and qualified for next Saturday’s semi state.
Southwood sophomore Braden Sweet finished 4th to advance. Northfield sophomore Andrew Burns finished 24th to join Sweet as an individual.
The Manchester girls finished third at the Culver regional. Torina Runkel was 10th, Halle Briner 14th, Kambree Cashdollar 22nd, Jaelyn Webb 27th, Katie Barker 36th, Sydney Diefenbaugh 48th, Maddy Evans 56th.
The Lady Squires will now run in the New Prairie semi state next Saturday.
Joining the Lady Squires is Carter Bedke, who finished 14th as an individual to qualify.
