The road to a state championship came to an end for the Wabash Lady Apaches Saturday in a 22-25, 22-25, 20-25 loss to North Judson in the Frankfort semi state.
The Lady Apaches rewrote the record books this season at Wabash this season with the most wins in school history, plus their first ever sectional and regional championships.
Although losing in three games Wabash was in every set and led in every set. The Apaches got off to a good start in game one, getting kills from Tabby Wagner, Kiley Stone, Sam Irgang and Mariah Wyatt to jump out to a 9-4 lead and were leading 13-10 when North Judson made a move. The Blue Jays would score five straight to grab a 13-15 lead that Wabash could never rebound from, losing game one 22-25.
Again Wabash would lead early in the game in set two. A Wyatt block and a kill from Alivia Short had the Apaches up 13-9. Sam Irgang would chip in to keep the Apaches in the game leading 16-13 when once again the Blue Jays would go running. North Judson would score 6 of the next 7 points for a 17-19 lead and were at match point 20-24 when Wabash scored two straight before falling 22-25.
Wabash would get kills from Stone and Wagner early in game three for a 4-2 lead before the two teams started trading points. With the game tied 7-7 North Judson would score three straight for a 7-10 lead. The Apaches would keep swinging away and stayed in striking distance, trailing 18-21 before North Judson scored the next three for an 18-24 lead. Wabash would stall the game point twice before falling 20-25.
