The Northfield Lady Norse opened their season Tuesday, hosting Western. Three solid quarters led the Norse past the Panthers 67-36.
An impressive first quarter would give the Norse the cushion they needed to build some depth throughout the game. Kelcie Thomson and Kyra Kennedy would get the scoring going with back to back layups for a 4-0 lead with Kearston Stout and Ariel Dale chipping in for a 16-4 lead. Dale would hit two long balls in the quarter as Northfield led 23-10 after the first stop.
The Norse would struggle in the second quarter, but fortunately so did Western as 9 total points were scored in the quarter. Dale and Emma Hoover had the lone Northfield buckets as the Norse led 28-14 at the half.
The offense would match the intense defense midway in the third quarter. Leading 33-25 Northfield would score 8 straight to get the lead to 41-25. Dale and Kennedy would do the damage before Addi Baker chimed in with two buckets. Northfield led 45-28 after three.
The fourth quarter would be all Northfield as Baker got things going with two buckets followed with a bucket from Abbey Ross. At 51-31 Stout would hit a bucket that started a 13-0 run with Kennedy, Melanie Beery and Dale scoring. The Norse would cruise to the 67-36 final.
