Apaches Impressive At Southwood

It was a rematch of the county championship game where Wabash held off Southwood for a three point win. Friday at Southwood the Apaches went nine deep in the scoring column as they routed the Knights 87-58.

Wabash took off to a 7-0 start off buckets from Blake Gribben and Logan Vander Velden plus a three pointer from Dereck Vogel. Southwood would respond when Gabe Lloyd hit a three after a steal that ignited a 10-2 run to give the Knights a 10-9 lead. Carson Rich had two free throws and a long ball during the run. Back came the Apaches with a 10-0 run with Jared Holley hitting twice, one being a three. Wabash led 19-13 when they would score the last 7 points of the quarter which ended with a Vogel 35 footer at the buzzer for a 26-13 lead after one.

The Apaches would score 9 of the first 13 points of the second quarter to open a 35-17 lead. Vogel hit his third long ball of the game. Holley would also add a three for Wabash while Dallas Holmes and Braden Barney tried to keep pace. Wabash led 46-31 at the half.

Vogel, who was on fire from behind the arch would add two more three’s in the third quarter with Trenton Daughtry also draining two long balls. Gabe Lloyd would try to keep pace with the flame throwers with two himself, but the Apaches were on fire and scored 23 points in the quarter as the lead grew to 69-45 after three.

The Apaches would increase their lead to 73-45 to start the fourth quarter. Lloyd and Luke Winer would each score to keep pace until 81-54 when Wabash would score 6 straight and go on to the 87-58 win.

Wabash scoring : Vogel 21, Kelsheimer 4, Gribben 6, L. Vander Velden 15, Daughtry 16, Holley 9, E. Vander Velden 8, Walter 3, Leland 2.

Southwood scoring : Lloyd 16, Holmes 10, Rich 7, Simons 7, Winer 6, Barney 10, Filip 2

Wabash won the junior varsity game 59-48.

Southwood scoring : Holloway 5, Smith 2, Barley 11, Winer 8, Lopez 9, Filip 13

Wabash won the C contest 40-20
