Lady Norse Headed To Semi State

The Northfield Lady Norse headed to Tipton Saturday in search of a regional title. After defeating Cowan 62-35 in the morning session the Norse would play Blue River Valley in the championship, claiming the title with a 55-41 win.

Cold shooting and maybe a little nerves the Norse struggled in the first quarter. Kelcie Thomson gave the Norse a 3-0 lead to start the game, followed with a three from Ariel Dale to make it 6-0. Cowan would score the next 5 points before Thomson put in an offensive rebound. Cowan would answer with a three to make it 8-8. Dale and Emma Hoover answered the call with back to back buckets as the Norse led 12-9 after one.

Cowan would score the first 5 points of the second quarter to grab a 13-12 lead before the Norse started to relax. Kearston Stout would hit two free throws and a bucket for a 16-13 lead. Up 16-15 Ally Keaffaber would add a long ball, followed by two Thomson buckets and a Kyra Kennedy free throw to open a 24-15 lead. Northfield led 24-17 at the half.

The second half would go much better for Northfield. A Thomson three point play, plus a second bucket put Northfield up 29-19.The Norse would start to get the fast break going with Kennedy on the receiving end as the lead grew to 36-21. Thomson and Kennedy would do all the scoring in the quarter with Abbey Ross chipping in a bucket for a 41-30 lead after three.

Leading 43-32 early in the fourth the Norse would erase all doubt about the outcome. Ariel Dale would hit a shot that ignited a 15-0 run to open a 58-32 lead. The Norse would have 7 players score in the quarter as they cruised to the 62-35 win.

Scoring : Ross 2, Leming 2, Dale 10, Keaffaber 3, Thomson 18, Kennedy 13, Beery 2, Hoover 6, Stout 6

In the championship against Blue River the Norse would grab a 5-0 lead on two Ariel Dale free throws and an Ally Keaffaber three. At 5-3 Dale would drain a long ball and a two, followed by a bucket from Kyra Kennedy to lead 12-3. Blue River would answer with 5 straight to make it 12-8 before Kelcie Thomson stopped the run. Northfield led 14-10 after one.

Blue River would control the tempo in the second quarter, eventually tying the score at 16. Kennedy and Tomson would answer with buckets for a 20-16 lead and led 22-20 at the half.

Blue River would tie the score to start the third quarter. Tied at 24 Thomson and Kennedy would create 6 fast break points to open a 30-24 lead. At 30-27 Keaffaber would hit another three, plus a two as Northfield led 35-30 with a quarter to go.

The fourth would belong to the Norse. Dale would score the first 5 points of the quarter to increase the lead to 40-30. Blue River would cut the deficit to 43-36 before the Norse took over. Kennedy, Dale and Thomson would all score as the lead grew to 50-36. Dale would hit from long range three times in the quarter as the Norse ran away from Blue River 55-41.
