Squires/Apaches Scorch Oak Hill Nets

The Manchester and Wabash basketball teams were on a collision course for a sectional title and that wreck happened Friday night as both teams scorched the Oak Hill nets.

The Manchester Squires were red hot in their win over Rochester Tuesday and continued to scorch the nets Friday as they defeated Lewis Cass 90-58 in the Oak Hill semi finals.

Riding the long ball on Tuesday the Squires would do the same in the first quarter Friday. Manchester got three’s from Brayden Casper, Weston Hamby and Max Carter. Casper would hit from long range twice. The Squires led 23-14 after the first stop.

Leading 26-18 early in the second the Squires would go on a 10-0 run to open a 36-18 lead. Casper started the run with two free throws.Logan Parrett would score the last 4 points of the run. Parrett and Thane Creager would do most of the damage with Parrett inside and Creager outside. Manchester led 43-24 at the half.

It was lights out in the third as the Squires ran away from the Kings. Manchester would start the quarter scoring the first 9 points fro Parrett and Kam Lester. Kreeden Krull would then chime in along with Max Carter, growing the Manchester lead to 67-34 after three.

Austin Underwood would lead the Manchester charge in the fourth, scoring 9 points. The Squires had runs of 7-0 and 9-0 in the quarter. Carter Bedke came off the bench to add 6 points in the quarter as Manchester cruised to a 90-58 win.

Scoring : Parrett 12, Casper 8, Lester 10, Hamby 13, Creager 13, Carter 11, Underwood 9, Krull 4, Borgmann 2, Bedke 6, Fierstos 2.

In game two the Wabash Apaches would send the host and defensing state champions home packing, defeating Oak Hill 75-44.

Wabash would waste no time setting the tone for the game. Trenton Daughtry would hit a three and a two for a 5-0 lead while the Apaches smothering defense caused the Eagles major problems. Leading 12-6 Logan Vander Velden would hit two free throws, followed by another Daughtry three to increase the Wabash lead to 17-6. Oak Hill would slice the Apaches lead to 19-12 before a Dereck Vogel three made it 22-12. Wabash led 22-14 after one.

Oak Hill would hit the first bucket of the second quarter which would be their only points. Wabash would respond with a 15-0 run the remainder of the quarter. Daughtry would score 10 points in the quarter with Vogel adding a three and Jasper Walter a bucket. Wabash led 37-16 at the half.

Leading 39-19 early in the third quarter the Apaches would all but put the game away. Elijah Vander Velden would start a 9-0 run that gave Wabash a 48-19 lead. Vander Velden and Daughtry would do all the scoring during the run. Dereck Vogel would follow by draining his third long ball of the game with Kallen Kelsheimer getting on the board with a couple buckets. Elijah Vander Velden led the third quarter charge with 9 points as Wabash led 59-33 with a quarter to go.

Oak Hill would cut the Wabash lead to 63-40 early in the fourth before a Vogel three ignited a 10-0 run. During the run Wyatt Davis would add instant intensity, scoring a bucket and converting two free throws as the Apaches rolled 75-44.

Manchester and Wabash will meet for the sectional championship saturday at 7:30
