The Wabash Apaches traveled to Lapel Saturday, chasing a regional championship. The Apaches record breaking season would come to an end however, falling to #4 Frankton 57-54.

In an basketball hoops game that did not favor Wabash the Apaches gave Frankton all they wanted with a shot at the buzzer falling short that would have forced overtime. Frankton jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Trenton Daughtry got Wabash on the board , the Apaches would work their way through a couple questionable calls and trailed 6-2 when Dereck Vogel drained a three, followed by a Daughtry bucket off a steal for a 7-6 lead. Daughtry would score 9 points in the quarter and had the Apaches up 12-10 before Frankton scored the last four points and led 14-12 after one.

Frankton would increase their lead to 16-12 to start the second quarter before Logan Vander Velden hit, followed by brother Elijah hitting back to back baskets for an 18-16 lead. Frankton would answer with five straight. Baskets by each Vander Velden again made it 23-22 before a Frankton bucket made it 25-22 at the half.

The Apaches would put a charge in the gym early in the third, starting the quarter on an 11-2 run to grab a 33-27 lead. Two Daughtry buckets and one from Blake Gribben made it 28-25. At 28-27 Logan Vander Velden would hit, followed by a Vogel bucket and a free throw from Gribben to lead 33-27. Wabash was up 34-29 after another Gribben free throw when Frankton answered with nine straight points to grab a 38-34 lead after three.

Frankton opened a 41-34 lead to start the fourth quarter before Daughtry hit before being fouled on a three point shot. Daughtry would hit all three free throws to make it 41-39. Frankton would hold on to their small lead and led 55-51 with 50 seconds left. With 14.3 on the clock Vogel would drain a three to make it 55-54 before the Apaches fouled with 12.2 on the clock. Frankton would hit both free throws for a 57-54 lead. The Apaches would come down court quickly, firing a three that fell short, but got another chance with less than a second to go when Frankton stepped out of bounds. One more desperation three fell short as the Apaches season ended 57-54.
