And that’s why they play the game. The Manchester Lady Squires took the short jaunt down state road 13 Saturday to take on state ranked Northfield, shocking the Lady Norse 41-39.

Jirni Cripe would kick off the scoring converting a three point play before and Ally Keaffaber three tied the score. Addi Baker would give the Norse a 4-3 lead before a Kennedy Fierstos three put Manchester up 6-4. Free throws from Ariel Dale and Baker put Northfield up briefly before a three from Eva Bazzoni and a bucket from Mackenzie Day gave the Squires the lead 11-9. Back came the Norse, getting a three and a deuce from Dale for 14-11 lead. Manchester would answer with an 8-0 run to end the quarter and led 19-14 after one.

Emma Hoover would hit a three for Northfield to start the second quarter that was answered by a Fierstos bucket and a three from Bazzoni. Manchester led 24-17. The Norse would close the gap to 24-21 on buckets from Kearston Stout and Baker, but again Bazzoni had the answer. Manchester was leading 28-21 when Stout hit twice, followed by Dale to make it 28-27 before Bazzoni hit before the buzzer giving the Squires a 30-27 halftime lead.

The two teams would combine for just 7 points in the third quarter as the rim seemed to become smaller. Kyra Kennedy made it 30-29 before Bazzoni hit her fourth long ball of the game to make it 33-29. A Hoover bucket ended the scoring in the quarter with Manchester leading 33-31 with a quarter to go.

The Squires would make an adjustment in the fourth in the name of Kennidy Lauer. Lauer would hit three times while the Norse worked to keep pace. Manchester led 39-36 when Dale hit two free throws with 1:58 left for a 39-38 score when Northfield started to foul. The Norse had several fouls to give before putting Manchester on the line, eating up valuable seconds. With 46.6 left Fierstos would drain two free throws to make it 41-38. With 13.8 on the clock Hoover would make it 41-39. Northfield would foul with 7.0 on the clock with the Squires missing the front end of a 1&1. The Norse raced down the floor, missing two shots before the final buzzer.
