Lady Apaches Defend Home Court Against Knights

The Wabash Lady Apaches rode an 11-0 run in the third quarter to defeat Southwood 51-37 Tuesday.

Hope Unger would get the Apaches going with a three pointer, followed by a bucket from Mariah Wyatt for a 5-0 lead. Erin Lehner would make it 5-2 before Wabash would build their lead to 10-5. With Wabash leading 12-7 after a Wyatt bucket MaKenna Pace would hit her second three of the quarter, followed by a deuce to tie the score 12-12 after one.

A Nici Gunderman two and a Abby Vinopal three would start the second quarter to give the Apaches a 17-12 lead before Kayla Mays made it 17-14. Wabash was leading 19-16 before Unger ended the quarter with a bucket to give the Apaches a 21-16 halftime lead.

The Apaches would run away from the Knights to start the third quarter. Vinopal would drain a three that started an 11-0 run to increase the Wabash lead to 32-16. Vinopal made two long balls during the run. Pace would stop the run with a three of her own, followed by a Sierra Stout bucket to make it 32-21. Tabby Wagner would score the final points of the quarter as Wabash led 34-21 after three.

Wabash would increase their lead to 38-23 early in the fourth as six different players scored in the quarter. Pace would score 7 points in the quarter for the Knights as the Apaches went on to win 51-37.

Mariah Wyatt paced the Lady Apaches with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Abby Vinopal and Hope Unger added 9 and 8 points. Kiley Stone added 2 points, Nici Gunderman 3, Kaylee Graf 4, Tabby Wagner 4, Alivia Short 6.

Kayla Mays – 2 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
Alissa Pershing – 1 rebound, 2 steals

Southwood won the junior varsity contest 33-29.
