2018 County Day One
The Wabash County basketball tourney kicked off day one at Manchester Friday. Four junior varsity games got the gym heated up before the varsity teams ended the eight game day.
Game one would set the tone for the day, going to overtime where the Manchester jv girls defeated Northfield 34-32,
Manchester scoring : Garriott 5, Shambarger 6, Meyer 3, Howard 2, Parrott 7, Auler 3, Day 4, Creager 3, Mooney 1.
Northfield scoring : Pennington 2, Dale 8, Clark 4, Rosen 7, Leming 11
In game two the the Wabash boys jv held on to defeat Manchester 47-42.
Wabash scoring : O’Neill 15, Reed 12, Wilson 2, Walter 7, Carmichael 4, Cole 5, Learned 2.
Manchester scoring : Bishop 6, C, Jones 9, Fierstos 17, Bedke 4, B. Jones 6
The game three matchup was between the Southwood and Wabash girls jv teams, where the Knights defeated the Apaches 30-13.
Southwood scoring : Barney 3, Smith 4, Ball 8, Wyatt 9, Hipskind 6
Wabash scoring : Long 2, Stumbo 2, Cordes 2, Province 3, Lutz 2, Johnson 2
The last junior varsity game of the day was Southwood and Northfield boys with the Knights edging the Norse 35-25

Northfield scoring : Halderman 6, Krom 6, Haupert 4, Osborne 2, Linkenhoker 2, Peas 3, Burns 2
The first varsity game was a rematch with the Northfield and Wabash girls. The Apaches made the decision to chase Ariel Dale which worked on her, with Kelcie Thomson rising to the occasion with 23 points in a 53-28 win for the Norse.
Thomson would hit from behind the arch six times and score 23 points to lead the Norse. Northfield led 11-6 after the first stop before out scoring the Apaches 15-5 in the second to open a 26-11 halftime lead.
The Norse would score the first 7 points of the third quarter and put together a 9-0 run in the fourth for the 53-28 win.
Northfield scoring : Dale 2, Keaffaber 3, Thomson 23, Kennedy 5, Baker 9, Hoover 4, Stout 7.
Wabash scoring : Graf 2, Gunderman 2, Vinopal 2, Wagner 3, Wyatt 7, Short 13.
The second varsity game was on the boys side where Wabash defeated Northfield 78-29.
Trailing 4-0 to start the game the Apaches would take over and never look back. Wabash finished the first quarter on a 15-3 run and led 15-7 after one.
Wabash would score the first 14 points of the second quarter as the lead grew to 29-7. The Apaches led 43-14 at the half.
Again Wabash would start a quarter on a big run, scoring the first 12 points of the third quarter to cruise to the 78-29 win.

Game three of the varsity evening was the Manchester and Southwood girls doing battle. The Lady Knights led the first three quarters before the Squires came back for a 40-35 win.
Manchester led 5-3 in the first when Southwood got a bucket from Morgan Farr that ignited an 11-0 run to put Southwood up 14-5. The Knights led 14-9 after one.
The second quarter seen just 7 total points as neither team could find the bucket. MaKenna Pace would score twice for the Knights which included a long ball as the Knights led 19-11 at the half.
The Squires would close the gap in the third, getting three pointers from Kennedy Fierstos and Eva Bazzoni as they out scored the Knights 14-7. Southwood led 26-25 after three.
Kennedy Fierstos would out score the entire Southwood team in the fourth, scoring 10 points as the Squires came back to take the game 40-35.

Southwood scoring : Pace 13, Lehner 2, Pershing 9, Farr 7, Stout 4
The last game of the evening was the Manchester and Southwood boys hooking up. In a see saw battle the Knights would ride a 16-0 run in the third for a 54-43 win.
Dallas Holmes would lead the way for the Knights in the first quarter, scoring 7 points as Southwood led 17-11 after the first stop.
The second quarter would belong to Manchester as Kam Lester would match the Holmes first quarter performance. The Squires scored the first three points of the quarter before going on a 12-0 run to end the quarter and led 26-19 at the half.
The Knights would answer the call in the third. Trailing 28-19 Holmes would post up at the free throw line before hitting Braden Barney four times for buckets. Barney led the charge as Southwood scored 16 straight to grab a 35-28 lead. The Squires would cut the lead to one before Gabe Lloyd ended the scoring in the quarter with the Knights leading 39-36 after three.
Holmes, Barney and Carson Rich would go to work early in the fourth as the Knights built their lead to double digits before winning 54-43.
