Knights Squander Big Lead Against Oak Hill
The Southwood boys built an 18 point first half lead and led by 20 in the third before Oak Hill came storming back to defeat the Knights 57-55 in overtime.
Gabe Lloyd and Dallas Holmes would hit back to back three’s to start the game and the Knights were off and running, building a 10-2 lead and led 13-9 after the first stop.
Oak Hill would cut the deficit to 13-11 to start the second quarter when Luke Winer started an 8-0 run to give Southwood a 21-11 lead. The Knights would hold the Eagles to just 5 points in the quarter while finishing the quarter on an 11-0 run. Holmes would lead the way in the quarter with 10 points as the Knights led 32-14 at the half.
Holmes would make it 34-14 to start the third quarter before the wheels started to fall off. Oak Hill would score 7 straight to make it 34-21 before Lloyd hit to stop the run. The Eagles would keep the high pressure on and had the Knights lead at 38-30 when two Jackson Simons free throws and a bucket made it 42-30. Oak Hill would finish the quarter with the last two buckets, but the Knights were still in the drivers seat, leading 42-34 with a quarter to go.
Oak Hill would quickly cut the Knights lead to 42-38 early in the fourth, but two Carson Rich buckets had the Knights leading 46-41. Oak Hill would respond with 7 straight to grab a 48-46 lead that was answered by Simons. Down two Braden Barney would tie the score with 13.5 seconds left, forcing overtime.
Oak Hill led 52-50 to start the OT when Lloyd drained a three to give Southwood a 53-52 lead. The Eagles would respond with the next 5 points for a 57-53 lead before Barney hit at the buzzer for the 57-55 final.
