Second Half Explosion Lifts Norse Past Tri Central
The Northfield boys trailed by 8 points after the first quarter before out scoring Tri Central 11-2 in the second, then exploding for 47 second half points in a 70-51 win Tuesday.
Northfield trailed 6-0 to start the game before a Logan Peas bucket made it 6-2. Down 8-2 Cole Rosen would hit two free throws, followed by a three from Peas to slice the deficit to 8-7. The Norse would eventually tie the game 12-12 before Tri Central scored the last 8 points of the quarter and led 20-12 after one.
A smothering defense would lead the way for the Norse in the second. Nate Drancik and Graydon Holmes would hit to start the second quarter, followed with a bucket from Jared Peas and a second from Holmes to make it 20-20 before Tri Central scored their lone two points of the quarter on free throws. Down two, Cole Rosen would drain a three to give the Norse a 23-22 lead at the half.
The Norse would continue their hot streak in the third. A three point play from Logan Peas and a Drancik three increased the Norse lead to 29-22. Northfield would continue the long ball onslaught in the third, hitting four in the quarter. Clayton Tomlinson hit twice from behind the arch with Jared Peas also hitting from long range. Northfield led 42-29 after three.
In impressive fashion the Norse would remain dominate in the fourth with both Peas and Jarrett Shafer all hitting three’s. The Norse had nine different players score in the quarter as they cruised to the win.
Jared Peas scored 12 to lead the way for the Norse. Logan Peas scored 11 and added 5 rebounds, Nate Drancik also had 11 and 5 and Graydon Holmes with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Clayton Tomlinson scored 6 points but added a team and career high of 11 assists. Bench play was outstanding as Cole Rosen scored 5 points and Braden Ripplinger had 4 points and 5 rebounds. Daniel Driscoll added 2 points, Jasper Long 3, Jarrett Shafer 3, Chance Hartman 2.
