Lady Squires Clinch Share Of TRC At Valley

The Manchester Lady Squires had one mission Thursday and that was to win a TRC title. The task was doing it at Tippecanoe Valley. In a nip and tuck game the Squires would hit 10 free throws in the fourth quarter, including two by Jirni Cripe with 4.9 seconds left to pull off the 43-40 raod win.

Manchester took a 3-0 lead on a three from Eva Bazzoni and led 5-2 after a Kenndy Fierstos bucket before the Vikings scored twice to tie the score 6-6. A free throw from Kennidy Lauer and a three from Fierstos would give Manchester a 9-8 lead after one.

Manchester would get long balls from Fierstos and Bazzoni in the second quarter as Valley rallied for the lead. The Squires would hang with the Vikings with Valley leading 20-19 at the half.

Valley would extend their lead to 22-19 to start the third quarter before a Fierstos three tied the score. Down 24-22 Fierstos would tie the score and was followed with a three from Kiera Hatfield and a free throw from Emma West to lead 28-24. Valley would end the quarter on a 5-0 run and led the Squires 29-28 with a quarter to go.

The Squires would get off to a great start in the fourth. A free throw from Bazzoni and Lauer, followed by Fierstos fourth three pointer of the game put Manchester up 33-29. At 33-31 Fierstos would connect, followed by two free throws from West with 2:21 left for a 37-31 lead. Manchester was leading 39-33 when Valley would hit two straight long balls to knot the score at 39 with 1:07 to play. The Vikings would foul with Manchester missing both free throws. The defense would make a stop with Valley fouling again with 40.2 seconds remaining. Fierstos would drain both charity tosses for a 41-39 lead. Valley would milk the clock for the last shot when the Squires fouled with 5.7 left. The Vikings would hit the front end of two shots before missing the second. Jirni Cripe would grab the rebound and was fould with 4.9 left, calmly sinking both free throws to lead 43-40. Valley would rush down the floor and get a shot from behind the arch that Cripe deflected to secure the 43-40 win.

The Manchester junior varsity fell to Valley 25-22.
