Southwood Splits Double Header With North Miami

It was double header night at Southwood as the boys and girls took on North Miami.

The girls were up first with the Lady Knights running into a very hot Warriors team, falling 72-35. Hannah Hall would give North Miami a 2-0 lead before a MaKenna Pace three put Southwood up 3-2. North Miami would respond with a 5-0 run with MaryAnn Freeman and Taylor Tinney doing the damage. Erin Lehner would stop the run with a three to make it 7-6. Freeman would score the final two points of the quarter from the charity stripe as North Miami led 9-6 after one.

The Warriors would set the tone for the remainder of the game to start the second quarter, going on a 15-0 run to open a 24-6 lead. Bailey Keim would score 6 points during the run to lead the charge. Kayla Mays stopped the run and was followed with two buckets from Pace, one being a three to make it 24-13. Hall would then lead the Warriors on a 7-0 run before another Pace three made it 31-16. North Miami led 31-19 at the half.

North Miami would out score Southwood 19-10 in the third with Keim leading with 7 points. Hall would add 7 and Freeman 5 to push the lead to 50-29 after three. Lehner would hit a three fro the Knights with Ashley Smith leading the Knights with 4 points.

The fourth quarter started with a 20-3 run from the Warriors as the lead grew to 70-31. The Lone bucket for Southwood in the quarter came from Pace as the Warriors ran away from the Knights 72-35.

The boys would finish the night with the Knights struggling with the Warriors in the first half before locking down in the second half to defeat North Miami 83-57.

North Miami would grab a 2-0 lead on a bucket from Darian Hanley before Carson Rich gave the Knights a 4-2 lead with two buckets. The Warriors would answer with a 9-0 run with Braxton Beall hitting twice around buckets from Hanley and Tristan Working. North Miami led 11-4 when Braden Barney hit, followed by a free throw from Luke Winer to make it 11-7. Back came Hanley with two buckets for a 15-7 lead before Gabe Lloyd and Dallas Holmes made it 15-11 after one.

The Knights would start the second quarter on an 8-0 run to grab a 19-15 lead. Leading 21-20 Braney would hit to start a 6-0 run to increase the Southwood lead to 27-20 before Alex Masters drained a three for a 27-23 score. The two teams would trade buckets the remainder of the quarter as Southwood led 41-33 at the half.

North Miami would cut the Knights lead to 41-38 on two Working buckets before Southwood had a huge answer. The Knights would respond with a 19-1 run to end the quarter with a commanding 60-39 lead. Dallas Holmes led the charge with 14 points in the quarter. Tristan Working scored all 6 Warrior points.

Holmes would continue to shoot lights out in the fourth, scoring 9 of his game high 33 points. Southwood out scored North Miami 18-10 midway through the quarter to lead 78-49. Darian Hanley scored 12 points for the Warriors in the quarter.
