CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Manchester University wrestling earned a hard-fought 29-20 victory at Thomas More College on Tuesday evening.
Elijah Phillips (Centerville, Ind. / Centerville) got the Spartans on the board early, recording the first pin of the match in the 133-pound weight class bout against Kelby Gay. Jordan Napier (Indianapolis, Ind. / Perry Meridian) continued his outstanding season, defeating Gavin Foushee 26-11 at 141-pounds for a technical fall victory. JaVon Phillips (Centerville, Ind. / Centerville) registered the match’s second pin of the night in his 149-pound weight class match. Joel Arney (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll) extended Manchester’s lead to 23-3 with a pin of Thomas More’s Garren Moody in the 157-pound bout. Shane Stits (Greenwood, Ind. / Center Grove) rounded out the Manchester scoring, adding the final pin for the Spartans just 22 seconds into his 174-pound match.
Manchester will be off this coming weekend and will begin to prepare for the 2019 NCAA Division III Central Region Championships which will be held February 22 and 23 at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
