Apaches Scorch The Nets At Blackford

The Wabash Apaches traveled to Blackford Saturday to take on the Bruins and the states leading scorer Luke Brown. Wabash would score the first 13 points of the game and never look back in an impressive 75-53 TEAM win.

Dereck Vogel would get the Apaches going with a three that was followed by 4 points from Elijah Vander Velden. Blake Gribben would then add a free throw before Vogel drained his second long ball. Trenton Daughtry would then score the final bucket of the run. Blackford would go to Brown and cut the deficit to 13-10 before Gribben stopped the run and started a new 10-0 run for the Apaches. Wabash led 27-15 after one.

Jasper Walter would add a three to start the second quarter that was the first of three long balls for him as the lead grew to 36-17. Blackford would score the next 8 to make it 36-25 when Daughtry hit, followed by another Vogel three. Jared Holley would score the final bucket of the quarter with the Apaches leading 44-27 at the half.

The Bruins would have the hot hand early in the third, cutting the Wabash lead to 46-35 before it became all Apaches. Daughtry would get hot with Walter adding another long ball. Logan Vander Velden would make it 56-36 before Daughtry and Vogel ended the quarter with buckets and a 62-39 lead.’

After a Blackford bucket started the fourth quarter Elijah Vander Velden would hit back to back buckets before a Holley three made it 69-41. Holley would hit two more times down the stretch as Wabash cruised to the 75-53 win.

Wabash would prove that team wins over individual most every time putting 5 players in double figures and 7 in the books.
