Murr, Wappes, Tyler Lead All-HCAC Selections
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Manchester University was well represented on the all-HCAC Indoor Track and Field teams that were announced this afternoon. 12 different Manchester Spartans garnered all-league honors after their strong performances this past weekend at the 2019 HCAC Indoor Championships.
The men earned a fourth-place finish at the HCAC Championships, totaling 55.50 points. Both Travis Murr (Franklin, Ind. / Franklin) and Daniel Baker (Okemos, Mich. / Okemos) landed on the All-HCAC Second Team. Murr earned a runner-up finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.12 seconds. Travis also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash, clocking in with a final time of 23.44. Travis also was a member of the 4-x-200 relay team that stood third on the podium following a time of 1:34.78.
Daniel Baker also earned a runner-up finish at the 2019 HCAC Championships. Baker placed second in the 5000 meters with a time 15:36.01. Baker’s time this past weekend was the eighth best time in Manchester history in the 5000.
The three remaining members of the third-place, 4-x-200 relay team – Kody Reece(Richmond, Ind. / Richmond), Austin Coughlin (Fairland, Ind. / Triton Central), and Ezekiel Jones (El Paso, Texas, Eastlake) – all received Honorable Mention All-HCAC honors on Thursday. The 4-x-200 posted a time of 1:34.78, the third fastest time in program history.
Manchester’s Distance Medley Relay team of Cameron Kimmell (Michigantown, Ind. / Clinton Central), John-Tyler Butler (Knightstown, Ind. / Henry County), Anthony Harris and Cameron Walton (Indianapolis, Ind. / Cardinal Ritter) combined for a third-place time of 11:20.29 and also earned Honorable Mention All-HCAC recognition. The quartets’ time this past weekend was the 10th best time in school history.
Senior Jordan Pennington (Richmond, Ind. / Richmond) was named to the Christopher M. Ragsdale Sportsmanship Team.
The Manchester University women’s indoor track & field team placed third at the 2019 HCAC Championships after tallying 80 points.
Junior Hannah Happes (Columbia City, Ind. / Columbia City) and freshman Kelsey Tyler(Rochester, Ind. / Rochester) both earned First Team All-HCAC honors on Thursday afternoon.
Wappes won a pair of individual HCAC titles, winning both the mile and 3000-meters. Hannah posted a top time of 5:20.85 in the mile and led the field with a time of 10:41.03 in the 3000. Hannah also earned a second-place finish in the 800-meters with a time of 2:23.72.
Kelsey Tyler was named to the All-HCAC First Team after earning the HCAC title in the 5000-meters, leading the field by nearly nine seconds with a time of 19:01.76. Tyler also recorded a third-place finish in the 3000-meter, crossing the finish line with a time of 10:47.18
Senior Samina Qureshi (Columbia City, Ind. / Columbia City) garnered Honorable Mention Al-HCAC honors after a third-place finish in the 5000-meters. Qureshi posted a time of 19:38.88 this past weekend. Samina was named to Christopher M. Ragsdale Sportsmanship Team.
