Daughtry Surpasses 1000 As Apaches Clinch TRC
The Wabash Apaches needed a win over Peru to win their first out right conference title since 1946 and wasted no time letting the entire gym know that would become a reality as they defeated the Tigers 66-43 Friday. During the second quarter junior Trenton Daughtry surpassed 1000 points for his career.
Trailing 5-2 after after buckets from DJ Fuller and Michael Chandler the Apaches would respond. Peru would answer with 6 straight with Duante Majors hitting twice before a 14-0 run from Wabash gave the Apaches a 21-11 lead. Daughtry would do most of the damage during the run with 9 points. Wabash led 21-13 after one.
Daughtry would hit the first two buckets of the second quarter with the second putting him in the 1000 point club. Logan Vander Velden would then score off a steal that increase the Wabash lead to 28-15 before Fuller and Matthew Ross closed the deficit to 31-22. Again it would be a Wabash run to close the quarter as Wabash scored the last 7 points to lead 38-22 at the half.
The Tigers would come out with some enthusiasm in the third quarter, starting the quarter on a 10-1 run to get the deficit to single digits at 39-32.
