ADA, Ohio – The Manchester Spartans competed in the AJ Cody Invitational hosted at Ohio Northern this weekend.
On Friday, athletes competed in the javelin and hammer throw competitions. Laina Boggs (Frankfurt, Ind. / Frankfurt) earned a first-place finish in the javelin throw with a top hurl of 30.99 meters. Jordan Pennington (Richmond, Ind. / Richmond) placed third in the men’s hammer throw. Pennington had a final distance of 38.77 meters. Joseph Swartz (Waterloo, Ind. / DeKalb) placed third in the javelin throw with a distance of 38.11 meters.
This afternoon, Jacob Hamilton (Mulberry, Ind. / Clinton Prairie) led the Spartans with an event win in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Hamilton posted a top time of 10.54.10.
Manchester added four, third-place finishes on the afternoon. Isabella Case (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Bishop Leurs) cleared a height 9′ 2 1/2″ (2.81 meters). Olivia Brooks (Indianapolis, Ind. / Center Grove) had a final throw in the shot put of 10.28 meters. For the men, Landon Balch (Rensselaer, Ind. / Rensselaer) placed third in the high jump after clearing a height of 6′ 2″ (1.88 meters). Alex Sanders (Kouts, Ind. / Kouts) rounded out the top-three performances for Manchester with a third-place finish in the pole vault. Sanders cleared a height of 13′ 7 1/2″ (4.16 meters).
Also to note from this weekend, Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind. / Columbia City) ran in the Columbus Cup at the Otterbein Twilight Meet on Friday evening. The Columbus Cup features some the top distance runners in NCAA Division III.
Manchester will now gear up for the 2019 HCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships set for next weekend, April 26-27, at Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio.
