The Northfield and Manchester baseball teams hooked up in a Hoosier Hysteria game on the grass Friday with the Norse throwing out a Squire runner at the plate to preserve a 3-2 win.
Manchester would grab a 1-0 lead in the first. Grant Strobel led off drawing a walk before eventually scoring on a Mason Meyer grounder for a 1-0 lead.
The Norse would even the score in the third. Michael Fisher would single and advance to second on a Cole Rosen sac bunt. Chance Hartman would then walk before Clayton Tomlinson singled home Fisher to make it 1-1.
The Squires would manufacture a run in the fourth on a walk and an error with Sam Martindale scoring the go ahead run.
Northfield would get the game back to even in the fifth. With two outs Tomlinson would single before Nate Drancik drew a walk. Braden Ripplinger would follow with a single that scored Tomlinson to make it 2-2.
The Norse would take their first lead in the sixth. With two outs Rosen would single and score on a Hartman triple to lead 3-2.
In the seventh the Squires would get a lead off single from Kyle Shepherd before Shepherd was thrown out at second trying to steal. With two outs Kam Lester would single to set up the dramatic finish. Meyer would hit a shot to the right field fence with Levi Fulkerson throwing to cut off Nate Drancik. Drancik then fired a BB to home with catcher Jacob Truman leaping for the high throw and tagging Lester out at the plate to end the game.
