The Wabash Lady Apaches soccer team picked up their first win of the season and their first TRC win over Peru 4-3 Thursday.

The Lady Apaches struck first by scoring a goal in the first minute of the game after a great carry up the field by Rylee Yoakum to assist Maya Benysh’s goal. The Lady Apaches continued to keep the pressure on with senior Benysh leading the charge, but couldn’t get another goal to fall in the first half. Peru scored twice in the second half to leave the Apaches down 2-1. With one minute left in regulation, Isabelle Davis assisted a Rylee Yoakum goal to tie the game. The Lady Apaches played 2 overtime periods that left both team scoreless and that led to penalty kicks. In the first round of 5 penalty shots freshman Hannah Layne again came up with big saves and only allowed one goal. Our first 4 penalty shots did not fall and that left sophomore Ashley Province at the line. She buried her shot to send the team to another round of penalty kicks. In the second round, sophomore Julia France buried her shot and then Layne made the bid save to give the Lady Apaches their first win! It was a great team win!
