NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Manchester women’s tennis team earned a big win on Saturday afternoon, defeating Earlham College 9-0 for its first win since October 2017.
The Spartans snapped a 22-match skid with a decisive 9-0 triumph against the visiting Earlham College Quakers.
Karly Eichenauer (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester) and Morgan Brazo (Mentone, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) started Saturday’s match with an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Kaitlyn Burger (Syracuse, Ind./Fairfield) and Maddy Russow (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) added an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, Karly Eichenauer was leading her No. 1 singles opponent Alex Swank 6-4, 5-0 before Swank retired. Morgan Brazo won 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 2 flight. Kaitlyn Burger earned a 6-2, 6-0 decision at No. 3 singles. Maddy Russow wrapped up the Spartan victory with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at the No. 4 singles slot.
The Spartans earned forfeit victories and No. 3 doubles and No. 5 and 6 singles.
Manchester (1-6, 1-2 HCAC) will travel to Indiana-South Bend on September 24 for a 5:30 pm match. Earlham (0-3, 0-2 HCAC) will host Miami-Middletown tomorrow at Noon.
