NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The hot-shooting Manchester University women’s basketball team topped visiting Beloit College by a final score of 81-54 on Saturday afternoon in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.


The Spartans shot a season-best 50% (29-of-58) from the field and 50% (11-of-22) from three-point territory, while their defense held the Bucs to 40.8% (20-of-49) shooting for the game.

Manchester converted 24 Beloit turnovers in to 26 points.

Never trailing on Saturday, the Spartans hopped out to an early 10-4 lead midway through the first period. MU held an 18-15 lead after 10 minutes of action.

Following a Beloit basket at the 7:43 mark of the second frame, Manchester would outscore the visiting Buccaneers 19-5 to grab a 39-22 lead at the intermission. The offensive outburst was spearheaded by a pair of three-pointers from both Abby Walker (Dayton, Ohio/Cloverdale) and Miranda Bieghler (Plainfield, Ind./South Putnam).

Manchester blew the game open following halftime as the Spartans outscored the Bucs 26-10 in the third quarter. MU built its largest lead of the game of 40 points at the 7:48 mark of the fourth quarter when it led Beloit College 72-32.

Freshman Hannah Lindsey (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) led four Spartans in double figures with 14 points. Lindsey finished 5-of-10 from the field and made a trio of three-pointers. Miranda Bieghler matched her career-high with 13 points. Bridget Nash (Carmel, Ind./Bishop Chatard) chipped in 12 points and three assists. Abby Walker finished with a career-high 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting. 10 different Spartans scored on Saturday.

Manchester’s bench outscored Beloit’s reserves 48-10. The Spartans also held a sizable advantage in transition, outscoring Beloit 21-2 on fast break opportunities.

Macy Miller (Huntertown, Ind./Carroll) and Kennedy Fillmore (Markleville, Ind./Liberty Christian) both grabbed a team-high five rebounds.

Kelly Loudon led Beloit with 24 points and nine rebounds.

Winners of back-to-back contests, Manchester improved to 3-2 on the season. Beloit dropped to 1-4. MU will have a week to prepare for its next contest. The Spartans will open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday December 7 with a road trip to Hanover College. Tip is set for 5 p.m.
