Wabash Girls Soccer Tops North Miami
The Wabash Lady Apaches soccer team pulled off a hard fought battle with conference opponent North Miami Thursday 2-1.
The game was 0-0 at halftime and the Apaches soon found them self down 0-1 with a goal by North Miami in the 2nd half. The Lady Apaches then found the equalizing goal with an amazing cross from sophomore Rylee Yoakum put in by senior Madi Lutz with an incredible header. The Apaches continued to attack and couldn’t find the back of the net until Wabash was awarded with a penalty kick and Yoakum put it away with the game-winning goal. Senior Morgan Mallow played as close to a perfect game as you can play defensively. Mallow saved 2 potential goals on her own as a defender as well as not allowing a single shot from her side of the field along with carrying the ball and distributing for multiple offensive opportunities. Sophomore Libby Mattern continues to play and distribute so well for the Lady Apaches. Strong offensive minutes for Lutz, Gunderman. O’Neill, Province, Yoakum, Thomas and Jones. Defensively Ballshmidt, Mallow, Jones played a fantastic game and senior Isabelle Davis controlled the center of the field for Wabash. Goalkeeper Hannah Layne had 5 saves on the night. The Lady Apaches move to 3-0-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. Wabash takes on another tough conference opponent Rochester on Saturday at home at 10am.
