Overall the Squires had some bright spots on the day at a tough individual tournament. Four Squires reached the finals, with Junior Dylan Stroud dominating his solid opponent from Cowan at 132 to win his 3rd straight John Mckee title after being named the Outstanding Wrestler last year. Senior Elijah Burlingame concluded a nice tournament with a win in the finals vs a talented wrestler from Hamilton Heights. Sophomore Zach France looked like he was poised to win the title as the one seed before falling victim to a headlock in the 1st place match, while Junior Trevor Dill came up just short with a heartbreaking overtime loss vs his rival from Tippy Valley. A huge bright spot on the day was Senior Gavin Mize jumping up in weight to 220 where he pinned the 1 seed and 2 others on the way to a 3rd place finish! Seniors Trescott Duffy and Jacob Caudill were also able to go 4-1 on the day and fight back to 5th after disappointing losses in the quarterfinals.
The Squires will look to continue working to get better as the team prepares for the Wabash County Tournament at Northfield on Dec. 29.
