Manchester Wrestling At East Noble
The Manchester Squires went 2-1 at the East Noble Quad Meet Saturday.
Manchester started out slow in the first dual of the day with a tough loss to Elkhart. The Lions jumped out to a 20-0 lead with some unexpected wins in the upper weight classes and the Squires were not able to recover despite winning 5 straight matches and fighting back to trail 38-32 going into the final contest. The Squires were able to regroup and take the fight to Lakeland, which included a good win from Junior Dylan Stroud facing his ranked opponent at the 138 lb. class. This was followed up with Senior Elijah Burlingame getting a tech fall for his 100th Career Win! In the final match of the day the Squires faced an East Noble team that had just beaten Elkhart, and it was impressive how hard the team competed. Senior Gavin Mize picked up his second pin of the day to get things started at 220, and fellow Senior Izzy Serrano fired up the team by working his opponent for a 6-2 decision. The Squires were able to win 6 of the final 8 matches of the dual, which included pins from Senior Jacob Caudill and Freshman Preston Duffy to seal the team win. Overall it was a good job by Manchester to fight through adversity to win the final dual of the day against a solid team. The Squires will return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to fellow Team State participant Bluffton at 6:30 pm.
Squires are 16-4 on the season.
