The Wabash Middle School soccer team faced RJ Baskett in its season opener Friday on Alumni Field, defeating the Indians 6-3.

The Apaches took charge of the first half with an aggressive first goal dribbled past Mississinewa’s keeper by Josie Bailey. Wabash’s Ty Carpenter and Kristian Stanton drove home one goal each to close the first half with Wabash up 3-2 on the Indians. Logan Wright tallied six impressive saves in the first half to carry the Apaches into halftime. While the game started fairly equal, Wabash showed its dominance in the second half. Ty Carpenter added a goal to his total for the night, and Max Carpenter and Jonas Church put away one goal each to secure the Apache win. Kristian Stanton shut the Indians down in the second half, racking up three saves on the night. Apache captains Logan Wright and Ty Carpenter each had one assist in the opening victory, with resounding support from the Wabash defense led by Shaylee Jacobs, Jaycee Jones, Linda Long, and Andi Stout. The Apaches will travel to Maconaquah MS on Monday, April 19 for its second contest of the season.
