Southwood JV Wins Slug Fest

The southwood junior varsity baseball team defeated Maconaquah in a slug fest 11-10 Thursday.

Ryan McGouldrick started on the mound and went 4 innings allowed 6 runs, only 3 earned. The Knights scored 0 runs through the first 3 innings and trailed 4-0 going into the bottom of the fourth. The Knights made a rally and took a 5-4 lead after 4. Will Winer took the mound in the 5th in relief of McGouldrick and the Braves regained the lead 6-5. Again the Knights battled back and regained the lead off RBI’s from Craft, Elzy, and Smith. Knights led now 8-6 after 5. Winer held the Braves scoreless in the 6th. Bottom of the 6th the Knights tacked on two runs with a Brave error and leading 10-6. Winer gave up 2 runs in top 7th to make it 10-8. Ryan Deeter came on in relief to finish it out. The Knights had a near double play that would’ve ended it, but the call went in favor of the Braves. With the score tied 10-10 in bottom of the 7th. Jaret Denney had an RBI to drive in Micah Smith as the winning run.
