The Wabash Middle School soccer team defeated RJ Baskett 8-1 Wednesday.

Wabash was quick to establish control of the game, with early goals by Max Carpenter (2), Josie Bailey (1), Ty Carpenter (1), and Jonas Church (2). The Apaches defense held strong for 70 minutes, allowing only 1 goal for the Indians. In the second half, Wabash was able to settle into their formation with solid passing combinations and shots outside of the 18, racking up 8 total goals for the night. With a cushion on the scoreboard, Kristian Stanton, the Apaches keeper, who had tallied 4 saves in the first half, was able to play the field in the second half, capitalizing on an Indian handball in the ball and an overall loose defensive line for RJ Baskett, scoring 2 goals for Wabash. Backup keeper for the night, Ty Carpenter, had only 2 saves in goal due to Wabash’s dominating performance the second half. Overall, the win was an all around team effort, with solid supporting minutes from Caleigh Mignery, Linda Long, Jake Vandegrift, John Harris, and Alyssa Crowley. Defensive credits for the night go to Jaycee Jones as stopper, Ashton Coffman and Andi Stout as defensive backs, and Ezra Church at sweeper. The Apaches will travel to Peru Monday, May 10 for its second match up against the Tigers.
