The Wabash boys soccer team was edged by Mississinewa 3-2 Thursday.

Wabash went up early after a dominating offensive effort when Troy Guenin-Hodson fired a shot into the far corner of the goal. Sol France provided the penetrating pass that opened up the scoring. A few minutes later, Mississinewa evened the score after a shot deflected off a Wabash defender past Greyson DeBoard in goal. The teams went into the half tied with one goal apiece.

The second half saw heated battles for loose balls and back-and-forth play.Jacob France put away a pass from Guenin-Hodson to put Wabash up about 10 minutes into the half. But Mississinewa responded with their second goal just minutes later. With fatigue mounting, the Apaches pressed on in their attack. Even a third goal from the Indians didn’t diminish the Wabash players’ efforts. With time running down, Wabash mounted a last, furious attack that saw the potential equalizer hit off the post and bounce off the goal line—no goal. The game ended with Mississinewa ahead 3-2.

DeBoard ended the game with 9 saves and Kolton Wilson led the team with 4 shots. Jacob Fuchs and Spencer Stout anchored the backline throughout the game

The Apaches open Three Rivers Conference play against Tipp Valley next Tuesday at LH Carpenter field. Kick-off is at 5:30.
