Wabash Boys Soccer picked up another TRC win edging Peru in penalties after 94 minutes of stalemate.

The teams battled in a back and forth game and while Wabash had the majority of good looks at goal, they were unable to find the back of the net.

Wabash’s backline of Andrew Dinkins, Will Galley, Brodie Craft and Spencer Stout held firm as Peru kept searching for a ball over the top to break through. Goalkeeper Greyson DeBoard ended the match with 8 saves including 3 diving, finger-tip saves.

As the game remained scoreless and the match approached overtime, Wabash pressed the attack using several strong throw-ins by Kolton Wilson. After several near misses, regular time ended scoreless.

Overtime saw some valiant play as both sides worked to generate scoring chances. but the 14 minutes passed quickly as the light was fading and the rain was falling at LH Carpenter field and the teams were forced to penalty kicks to resolve the tie. After three PKs apiece, Peru was up 2-1 despite an awesome save by DeBoard. Peru’s fourth man could have put the match to bed by scoring, but DeBoard managed another diving save. Kicking fourth for Wabash, Jacob France calmly found the side netting to even things up 2-2. Peru’s fifth man fired his shot over the bar, opening the door for a Wabash comeback. Sol France ran confidently up to the spot, picked his corner and buried the ball in the side netting to seal the victory for the Apaches.

Wabash is now 6-3-1 and 3-1 in the TRC. Thursday night they face TRC foe Maconaquah at Alumni field for a 6 pm match. Prior to that game will be the conclusion of the Wabash Girls Soccer team match vs Manchester which will resume suspended play at 5 pm.
