The Manchester Squires Wrestling team picked up an important road victory on Thursday night. Freshman Jose Cortes started the dual with a come from behind pin on his Freshman opponent. After a late loss by Fall to tie things at 6, Sophomore Isaiah Burlingame registered a 1st period pin to start a run of 4 straight wins to to put the Squires up 30-6. Tippy picked up 3 straight wins including a decision battle between State Qualifier Bazle Owens and Manchester Senior Trevor Dill. Wins by Freshman Jocelynn Molina and Senior Jace Judy put the dual out of reach 42-30 before the showdown of the night between ranked wrestlers at 132.
Senior Dylan Stroud, ranked 6th, picked up a quick takedown over 11th ranked Senior Drake Montelongo. Stroud was not able to register another takedown after cutting his opponent, and Montelongo tied the match with a 2nd period escape. Stroud was able to score a nice reversal in the 3rd period and then ride out his opponent to improve to 8-0 on the year. The pair are scheduled to possibly face off 2 more times this season, including next Saturday at the John Mckee Invite.
Overall, the Squires are pleased to even the season record at 4-4, and will work diligently to defend the Caston Invite Title on Saturday at 9 am.
