Manchester U Softball Splits With Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind. – The Manchester University softball team returned to the win column after splitting a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at rival Anderson University on Tuesday April 12.

Manchester took the opening game of the day by a final score of 4-1. The Ravens managed to pick up a walk-off 3-2 win in the second game of the afternoon to earn a split of Tuesday’s doubleheader.

Spartan Stats

Manchester led for the entirety of the opening game on Tuesday afternoon. The Black & Gold struck for a pair of runs in the top of the 1st inning as senior Lizzie Smith (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) doubled home both Izzy Dittmar (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw Community) and Brook Reaves (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo).
Anderson would respond with a run of its own in the home half of the opening inning.
The Spartans would then add single runs in the top of the 3rd and 6th innings, respectively.
In the top of the 3rd, Kodi Douglass (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) hit an RBI single that scored Julianne Gosnell (Amboy, Ind./Oak Hill).
In the top of the 6th inning, Delayne Sanchez (Osceola, Ind./Penn) also connected on an RBI single.
In Tuesday’s opener, both Sanchez and Izzy Dittmar collected two hits.
First-year Kaitlyn Carr (Valparaiso, Ind./Chesterton) improved to 5-2 in the pitcher’s circle this season after an outstanding performance. Karr allowed just one run while scattering seven hits.
In the second game of the afternoon, the Spartans scored both of their runs in the top of the 6th inning. Kodi Douglass got Manchester on the scoreboard after hitting a sac fly to right. Lizzie Smith would then tie the game at 2 after hitting an RBI single to center.
The Ravens would go on to eke out a 3-2 win after scoring the game-winning run in the home half of the 7th inning following an error in the field by the Spartans.

Manchester (9-17, 1-5 HCAC) is scheduled to host Bluffton University on Friday April 12 at the MU Softball Field. Friday’s game is a makeup from an early postponement.
Game time on Friday is currently scheduled for 1 p.m.
