108 high school golfers descended on Swan Lake Resort on Thursday, trying to earn a bid to the State Tournament at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, IN.

The Top 3 teams and the Top 5 individuals on a non-qualifying team advance to the State Finals, so qualifying out in this highly talented field is no small task. Senior Owen Kruschwitz executed a nearly flawless round, firing off a 1-over 73, good enough for 8th place overall and 3rd place among players on a non-qualifying team.

Owen will be the first to tell you that this year has not been his best season of competitive high school golf. Golf is a game of endless refinement, and often that means struggling through a round while you work to improve certain areas of your game. Owen deserves a lot of credit for his willingness and commitment to figure out areas of weakness and working day in and day out to improve them, even if it means posting higher scores than he’d like. Despite what this season’s numbers may say, earning a bid to the State Finals against such a strong field solidifies his legacy as one of the best golfers to ever tee it up for the Squires. It was great to see all his hard work come together at the right time.

The State tourament is next week, Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be live scoring online at the IHSAA Boys Golf website, so follow along as Owen looks to finish his Squire career with a strong showing.
